World Oceans Day Celebration

13 June 2024

As part of the World Oceans Day activities this year, EPA in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change Environment and Energy conducted a cleanup event at K.Thanburudhoo Protected Area . This event brought together volunteers from MNDF and the K.Thanburudhoo Advisory Committee, who not only took part in the island clean up, but also in installing the sign-boards to guide resource users in the Protected Area.

Over the course of the cleanup, a significant area of K.Thanburudhoo was cleared of litter and debris, with a large percentage consisting of washed-up bottles. During the event, 8 jumbo bags and 25 additional bags of litter were collected. However, a sustained effort is needed to ensure that the washed-up garbage is managed routinely, highlighting the need for reduction in plastic usage, and proper waste management.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated and supported this event. Together, we can continue to foster a cleaner, greener future for generations to come. We need everyone's help in future cleanups to make a lasting impact.
