Water Testing in Greater Male’ Area

3 March 2025

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is preparing to conduct long-term water testing to assess the condition of seawater in the Greater Male’ area.

In this regard, the Ocean Country Partnership Program (OCPP) has conducted a training program for EPA staff. The OCPP is a program run by the UK Government to provide development assistance to foreign countries.

In October last year, a team of OCPP conducted water sampling and analysis of outfalls and other special areas in the Greater Male’ area. EPA and the Water and Sanitation Department of the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy participated in the event.

The primary purpose of EPA personnel participating in this hands-on training is to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to conduct these activities on a regular basis in the future, as well as monitoring in a sustainable manner. These activities will facilitate sustainable monitoring of the water situation in the city and further help in protecting the environment.

In addition, OCPP will provide emergency response equipment and conduct related training.
